Herbert Biggs PhD. is a former Full Professor from the Queensland University of Technology who retired in 2016 and remains an active researcher and Adjunct Professor at QUT. He took his Honours degree in psychology from the University of Queensland and his PhD. from Massey University, New Zealand. He has held teaching and research positions at five Universities covering a wide spectrum of psychology but principally concentrated on organizational, social, and rehabilitation psychology, and occupational and health concerns in industry contexts.

He is a registered psychologist and has practised as such for 30 years. He is also an accredited rehabilitation counsellor with extensive experience in working with people with physical, mental, and emotional challenges in Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland. He was a member of the initial cohort of trained Rehabilitation Counsellors in Australia and was awarded an ANZAC Fellowship in 1988 to evaluate accident rehabilitation in New Zealand which led to a consultancy by the Accident Compensation Commission of New Zealand and delivery of recommendations on service delivery and training for allied health professionals. In 2002 the REHAB Group of Ireland and the UK commissioned him to investigate and advise on durable R&D strategies and education pathways for their clientele. In 2020, he received the Australian Psychology Society (APS) Rehabilitation Psychology of Injury, Chronic Illness and Pain IG National Research Award for his significant research activity in the fields of rehabilitation and occupational safety. Since 2017, he has been a Board member for the combined Australian Departments of Defence and Veterans’ Affairs Human Research Ethics Committee (DDVA HREC).
